Are IELTS on computer and IELTS on paper the same?
Essentially, yes. If you choose to take the IELTS on computer, you will be taking exactly the same IELTS test, with the same content and question types, structure, level of difficulty, duration, and markings, as that of the paper-based IELTS.
The timing, however, is slightly different for the Listening portion because the computer-delivered IELTS does away with transfering answers to a separate answer sheet. Thus, the allotment of extra 10 minutes is no longer needed by the test-taker in IELTS on computer.
To note, in the computer-delivered IELTS, you will answer the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections on a computer, which, again, are identical to that of the paper-based IELTS. The Speaking portion, on the other hand, will still be administered face-to-face with a professional IELTS Examiner, as this is still the most effective method of assessing your verbal language skills.
What are the advantages of choosing IELTS on computer?

If I choose IELTS on computer, will I be able to take it at home?
No. Despite having to take the IELTS on a computer, it cannot be done remotely. In other words, taking the computer-delivered IELTS will still require the test-taker to be at an official IELTS testing centre where the assessment will be properly administered. This way, the security, trust, and integrity of the IELTS are preserved and protected.
Should I take the IELTS on computer?
This boils down to your personal choice and needs. For one, if you are used to the traditional pen-and-paper method in answering exams, you might have a difficult time adjusting to the computer-based testing approach. There are some, on the other hand, who would rather type their answers on a computer to save time or avoid hand pains from writing, so the IELTS on computer is the better option for them.
Further, as mentioned earlier, the computer-based IELTS offers more testing dates and quick results, so if you need either or both, then IELTS on computer is your best bet.
